Mashpi Lodge

Where the cloud forest meets world-class luxury — and nature takes your breath away · 3 Days / 2 Nights

Signature journey

Luxury in the cloud forest

There are lodges, and then there is Mashpi. Perched at 1,200 meters above sea level, shrouded in mist, and surrounded by one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on earth, Mashpi Lodge redefines what a luxury nature experience can be. Named one of National Geographic's Unique Lodges of the World, it sits at the heart of a private 1,300-hectare reserve in the Chocó Andino cloud forest — just two hours from Quito, yet utterly removed from the ordinary world.

The journey

Day by day

  1. Day01

    The forest draws you in

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Quito along the western flank of the Andes, descending into an increasingly lush world as the vegetation thickens and the air fills with life. You arrive at the Lodge by noon, welcomed with lunch and an afternoon of discovery. Choose your first adventure: a guided forest hike revealing the Reserve's extraordinary flora and fauna, or a ride aboard the iconic Dragonfly aerial cable car, gliding silently above the canopy. After dinner, the Night Walk transforms the forest into something otherworldly; glass frogs, snakes, and tarantulas emerge from the undergrowth in a display that is equal parts thrilling and humbling.

  2. Day02

The Reserve in all its glory

Rise before dawn for the forest's greatest free performance: dozens of bird species calling across the misty canopy from the Lodge's panoramic terrace. After breakfast, the day is yours to fill with hiking, birdwatching, or exploring the Life Centre's extraordinary butterfly collection. The afternoon has two major highlights: the Sky Bike, an aerial cycling adventure 200 meters above the forest floor, and the sunset climb to the Observation Tower. As evening falls, the experience shifts to something altogether more refined. Mashpi's kitchen celebrates the flavors of Ecuador's cloud forest, elevating exceptional local produce into culinary artistry. An expert lecture by one of the Lodge's resident naturalists rounds out a day that leaves you inspired and genuinely transformed.

  3. Day03

One last morning in the canopy

The final morning is unhurried. One more trail, one more viewpoint, one last coffee on the terrace with the forest spread out before you. Departure is at 11:30 am, with a complimentary gourmet box lunch for the scenic drive back to Quito.
